A couple from Wagholi, Pune contacted me last year. They had found a beautiful 2BHK at a great price in Kesnand Road, but the broker said, “Sir, south facing hai, mat lo.” They were confused.

When I visited, the flat was actually excellent – the entrance was in the 4th pada of the south, the master bedroom was in the south-west, and the north-east had a large balcony with morning light. I told them, “This is far better than many east facing flats I have seen where the toilet is in the north-east.”

Myth 1: South facing house always causes financial loss.
Truth: Financial loss happens when the north, which is the direction of Kuber (wealth), is blocked with toilets or heavy storage. Facing has nothing to do with it.

Myth 2: South facing main door brings death.
Truth: In Vastu, death is associated with wrong placement of beds and wrong slope, not an entrance. A main door in the correct pada of the south is considered very good for fame.

Myth 3: You can never get a loan for a south facing flat.
Truth: This was true 10 years ago. In Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune today, banks give loans easily. In fact, south facing flats are 5-10% cheaper, so it’s a smart buy. 

Myth 4: South facing house is always hot.
Truth: With modern construction, cross-ventilation and curtains, this is not an issue.

Myth 5: Only east and north facing are good.
Truth: All directions are good. Vastu Shastra says layout matters more than facing. 

Myth 6: South facing entrance brings fights.
Truth: Fights happen when the bed is in the wrong zone or mirrors face the bed. Not because of the entrance.

Myth 7: You need expensive pyramids for remedies.
Truth: 90% of defects can be fixed with placement shifts and colors, without buying anything.

Truth: No. South-west facing (213-225 degrees) is more critical than pure south facing (165-195 degrees) and needs more care.

Remedy 1: Correct the Main Door with Light and Color
If your south facing main door vastu is in the wrong pada, paint the door frame in dark brown or put a warm yellow light above the door that stays on from 6-10 PM. This energizes the south fire element positively.

Remedy 2: Use the South-West as Your Power Corner
If your master bedroom is not in south-west, make the south-west corner of your flat the heaviest. Place your almirah, locker or heavy storage there, opening towards north. This balances the energy.

Remedy 3: Keep North-East Empty and Lit
